For a more adventurous non package holiday why not try my mother’s house at Watamu on the Kenya coast.  The house stands on a high part of the plot overlooking the sea.  It is approached by its own drive through 7 acres of indigenous African coastal forest with a soft path through the trees down to a long sandy beach.  Vervet monkeys, suni (a tiny buck), a giant harmless nocturnal rat, monitor lizard, butterflies etc live in the forest.  The long sandy beach is chosen by turtles to lay eggs and in the sea are coral and tropical fish.  It's a Marine National Park so you have to pay to go snorkeling.
